Social Emotional Learning

At Queens, Social Emotional Learning (SEL) is a key element woven into the school’s culture, with the goal of fostering emotionally resilient and strong individuals. To thrive in a collaborative environment, students must develop crucial social and emotional skills, including impulse control, emotional awareness, self-motivation, and a positive attitude toward their school and community. This philosophy is integrated into the curriculum from the very beginning. At Queens College, SEL practices enable educators to customize academic lessons that encourage active participation from students. By promoting empathy, self-awareness, and inclusivity in the classroom, SEL initiatives facilitate meaningful transformations. Acknowledging students’ need for expression, we include collaborative group projects at various levels, allowing students to identify their roles and contribute significantly. Teachers assist students in setting goals for improvement, fostering a sense of teamwork toward common objectives. SEL skill development and interventions occur in nurturing, supportive, and well-structured environments, giving students a crucial sense of accomplishment.
