British Council ISA Project-Indian Skit and Srilankan Dance Report
British Council ISA Project
The performing Arts plays a key role for our student’s personal development. To widen the horizon under the umbrella of ISA project of British Council a combination of social, cultural and historical presentation was designed with students of class IV and V. It contained a short Indian Skit based on Panchtantra story to reflect ethnic Indian traditions and culture followed by a mesmerizing dance performance “Avurudu New Year Celebration” which depicted classical dance form “Kandyan Dance” of Srilanka. With a short training for a week the splendid students staged a dance well in colourful Srilankan attire before class IV and V students as audience. Through this activity children learnt a new dance form and built the acceptance of diversity of the world and feeling of oneness and sense of respect towards Srilanka’s culture and traditions. The piece mainly focused on some good arts and dances. The dance moves helped to entertain the audience without uttering any message. For both ritualistic and aesthetic reasons, dance plays an important role in Srilanka’s culture.
